AUTARKY DOUBLE A STEP TOO FAR
League and cup double proves a step too far for Autarky
After last week’s victory ensuring the Sussex Business League first division squash title, the Dunnings-based Autarky team were looking to complete the double with a Cup win at West Worthing on Friday.
With both a win and a loss against Cup final opponents Blood Sweat and Beers in the league earlier this season, the match was always going to be a closely fought tie. Unfortunately a league and cup double wasn’t to be on the night, as a slight under-strength team of five succumbed to a 3-2 loss overall.
¬ Henry Bitmead lost to Pete Higgins 0-3
¬ Matt Wagg beat Ben Hansford 3-1
¬ Giles Cowdell beat Craig Rowland 3-1
¬ Matt North lost to Jamie Young 1-3
¬ Stuart North lost to Clare Young 0-3
Despite last night’s loss it has been an excellent season for the Autarky team. Captained by Stuart North, the first division champions also ensured local bragging rights over fellow-Dunnings team Gurkha, after overturning an early season loss to win the return fixture and triumph in a semi-final Cup derby.
The team fielded a total of nine players throughout the season, with Jordan Holder Mansfield and Grant Miller joining the team for the first time.
